Coffee with Jim – July 2, 2011

I’m holding a coffee hour – or, more precisely, a set of coffee hours – this Saturday morning, July 2, from 7 am to 9 am, at Dottie’s Cafe, 915 W. Territorial, just east of 20th Street.
Stop on by after this Saturday morning’s Balloon Festival launch, and enyoy a cup of coffee and a continental breakfast (no big eaters, Chuck Adams) on me.

Great Start Parent Coalition meeting

This evening I attended the Great Start Parent Coalition meeting and learned about a Kellogg Foundation-funded program called “Early Childhood Connections”. This Battle Creek-area program, which started May 31, puts “Family Coaches” in homes of families with young children, to help those parents best help their youngest-aged kids.

Health Department to hire 6 school nurses

This evening the Calhoun County Commission will amend the Health Department’s 2011 budget to allow the Department to hire 6 school nurses. This is possible because the Kellogg Foundation granted the Department $825,000.00 to fund a School Wellness Program.

Trailway Development Agreement

This Thursday the Calhoun County Commission will likely approve the proposed Calhoun County Trailway Development Agreement, allowing the Trailways Alliance, Friends of Ott Preserve, and the Road Commission to go forward with the compromise reached in April to the bicycle trail controversy.

Calhoun County’s Water Resources Commissioner just reported ….

Calhoun County’s Water Resources Commissioner just reported to me that a Calhoun County Circuit Court judge this morning issued a temporary restraining order keeping an Intercounty Drainage Board from holding a Drainage Board Meeting of Necessity this next Thursday.
If a drainage district were established, changes would occur along Minges Brook.
