Calhoun County Road Commission Vote

Tuesday, September 18th, 2012
This Thursday evening, September 20, at 7 pm, our County Board votes on whether to turn over the Calhoun County Road Commission duties to the County, making the now separate Road Commission a department of the County.
Our meeting will take place at the Board of Commissioners’ chambers, in the County Building at 315 W. Green, in Marshall.

Calhoun County’s Health Officer to review the Health Department’s proposed 2013 budget

Today the County Board’s Budget Committee (of which I’m a member) met with Calhoun County’s Health Officer to review the Health Department’s proposed 2013 budget, and our committee will recommend to the Board that it pass this budget, balanced, fortified by revenue from a number of grants, and representing 3% less in county general fund support than was so in 2012.

Battle Creek Public Schools’ impressive REACH program

Springfield Middle School 8th graders (and Student Government members) Sarah Jones, Yari Rosario, and Azaria King gave me a tour this evening of Battle Creek Public Schools’ impressive REACH program.
This is a pre-Math/Science Center academically talented magnet junior high Elizabeth Insley invited me to explore.
Kudos to BCPS for this innovative curriculum.

  • Join Jim Haadsma this upcoming Friday midday, February 24, 2012, between 11:30 am and 1:30 pm, at the PNA 2416, just north of the Post plant, to discuss county roads and the Road Commission’s future, and to celebrate this Sunday’s start-up of the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series: the Daytona 500.
    A Road Commissioner or two will stop in, and the PNA grill will be hamburger-ready.

State Police/Sheriff’s Department/Marshall City Police law enforcement center

This evening the Calhoun County Board met jointly with the Marshall City Council to hear a presentation about a proposed joint State Police/Sheriff’s Department/Marshall City Police law enforcement center.
This project would cost almost $24 million.
I feel like I would if, lacking financing for a bicycle, I visited a Rolls-Royce dealership and heard a salesperson tell me all about the luxury I can’t afford.
